Peregrine Honig works with themes of beauty, vulnerability, and exploitation in multifold series. Collectors include The Chicago Institute of Art and The Whitney Museum of Art, where Honig, at the age of 22, was the youngest living artist to have work acquired by the collection. In her intaglio suite and body of mixed media gural works presented in the Autumn Exhibit, Honig depicts acquiescent mother-proxies unnaturally fostering infant animals who are at once innocent and exploitative. These works infuse a classical aesthetic with the disquieting, al- so-classical Greek mythology of cross-species sexuality and maternity. Ultimately, Honig’s viewer must consider a sometimes-uncomfortable link between nurture and surrender.
